Galvanising
We've been providing engineers and fabricators with galvanising services for more than 40 years.
Hot dip galvanizing is a well-established and highly effective steel treatment. Coatings are metallurgically bonded to the base steel, forming an impervious barrier between the substrate and the corrosive environment. Our zinc bath measures 7m x 1.3m x 2.4 mm and is capable of taking items up to three tonnes.
Clean steel components are dipped into molten zinc at a constant temperature and coated with a uniform layer of iron-zinc alloys with pure zinc on the surface. Our process conforms to BS EN ISO 1461:2009, which requires the zinc coating to be an average of 85 microns thick on steel components above 6mm thick.
Hot dip galvanizing holds many advantages over conventional coatings.
Outstanding corrosion resistance and long life. As soon as the galvanised item leaves the zinc bath the surface reacts with the oxygen in the air to form a thin, impervious film of zinc oxide that has excellent adhesion.
Enhanced edge and corner protection. Coatings are thicker than plastic-dipped or painted coatings, providing excellent coverage on sharp corners and angles.
Highly economical. Low initial cost combined with long life provides economical protection for long periods - often more than twenty years in hostile environments.
Fast process. While multi-coat painting can take up to a week, hot dip galvanising can be achieved in just minutes.
